A new stage of Szczęsny's career is coming closer. Barcelona is preparing a contract

A new stage of Szczęsny's career is coming closer. Barcelona is preparing a contract

According to his reports, the Polish goalkeeper's new contract with the "Pride of Catalonia" will be valid until 2027. Everything indicates that the formalities are in the final stage, because - as the service informs - "lawyers have recently been working on the last details in this case". For Szczęsny, this would mean remaining in the Pride of Catalonia.

Joan Garcia – rival or temporary support?

At the same time, there is growing talk of an imminent transfer of Joan Garcia – a young, talented goalkeeper from Espanyol. The Catalan media have been suggesting for several days that the transaction is on the verge of being finalized. Barcelona is to pay 25 million euros for the Spaniard and tie him to a five-year contract.

However, as Meczyki emphasize, the move with Garcia does not mean a threat to Szczęsny. Quite the opposite. "I hear that there is still a very good chance that Garcia will be loaned out," the service reports. Everything indicates that the young goalkeeper may be signed with the future in mind, and not immediate competition for the first team.

Marc-André ter Stegen – the end of an era?

While the situation seems clear in the case of Garcia, the bigger question mark is the future of the current leader between the sticks – Marc-André ter Stegen. The German has been playing for Barcelona for ten years now, and in that time he has played 422 official matches. For years he was the undisputed number one, but the end of last season left many questions.

The 3-2 defeat to Villarreal in the league, where ter Stegen was one of the most criticized players, has set off a wave of discussions about his form and future. Especially in the context of the plans of the new coach - Hansi Flick - who announces a fight for all possible trophies next season. Does the German still fit into this vision?

For now, ter Stegen is calming the mood. “I know I’ll be at Barcelona next season,” he said during a German training camp, just after his team lost 2-1 to Portugal in the Nations League, with him between the posts.

High salary, big problem

Despite ter Stegen's assurances, the situation is not clear-cut. If Barcelona actually sign Joan Garcia and decide to keep him at the club - instead of loaning him out - a scenario in which the experienced German will say goodbye to Camp Nou will be possible.

According to reports from La Vanguardia, the decision may be made immediately after the Garcia transfer is finalized. The club's leaders are to hold a direct conversation with ter Stegen to present their position to him. In the background, there is a financial problem - the German's high salary, which weighs on Barcelona's budget, may be a key argument for parting ways.

It is also significant that ter Stegen has three more years on his contract. Terminating it or having it terminated by mutual consent would be costly, but it may prove necessary if the club wants to build a new financial and personnel structure.

New deal in Barcelona's goal?

All signs indicate that the coming weeks will bring a revolution. Wojciech Szczęsny 's stay in the Spanish champions' line-up may mean not only a sporting reinforcement, but also a clear signal to the fans - the club is not afraid of bold decisions and is betting on experience.

At the same time, the signing of Joan Garcia – whether for immediate competition or for the future – shows that Barcelona are planning their goalkeeping for the long term. However, the situation with ter Stegen cannot be forgotten. If the club decides to keep Garcia and sign Szczęsny, then there may simply be no place for a third goalkeeper.

A Polish accent in the Catalan puzzle

It is worth noting that Szczęsny's potential transfer to Barcelona would be an exceptional event not only for the player himself, but also for the entire Polish football. For the 34-year-old Szczęsny, it would probably be the last opportunity for such a spectacular move in his career.
