Wisła Kraków is further and further away from Ekstraklasa clubs. And the bar of expectations is lower and lower
The competitiveness of the Krakow club on the transfer market is decreasing. Yes, the city's brand, great tradition and fan base still help in negotiations, because which player wouldn't want to play in a stadium filled to the brim, but the most important magnet, the financial one, is attracting less and less.
Wisła is left to choose among players rejected by the powerful.
We have seen more than once that a valuable team can be built from such players, but not in Kraków. The personnel decisions made before the relegation have been causing a backlash to this day.
The team based on foreign recruits completely failed at the end of the Ekstraklasa, and then in the first months on the pitches of the first league. Despite this, for the next year it was created according to the same pattern, with an overwhelming advantage of players of small stature, not fond of physical combat. Supposedly above-average technical training, for which the graduates of Spanish academies are famous, but not enough to be able to freely create advantages and work out clear shooting positions in one-on-one actions.
When Krakow finally realized what was happening, last summer they began to hastily and on a large scale transform the squad. Kazimierz Moskal, seeing what was happening in the club, put on a happy face at press conferences for the bad game, and in the corridors he clutched his head, somehow achieving quite decent results in the first matches in Europe. However, a couple was not enough for the league games and the team focused on attacking, conceding a lot of goals, again, as in the previous two years, threw itself into a belated pursuit of the top.
He was supposed to score more often than SobczakThe biggest disappointment, contrary to popular opinion, was not the previous coach, but some of those who were supposed to be the team's leaders, led by Łukasz Zwoliński, who came from Ekstraklasa. His indisposition turned out to be crucial for the results of many matches, both at the beginning and at the end of the last season, including the play-off semi-final with Miedź Legnica.
It's not just about goals, because a good striker also looks for assists, and he's only got one since February. He was supposed to give Wisła much more than Szymon Sobczak, who was losing ground in attack, but since the summer he's scored in every competition... once more than his much-criticized predecessor, and that despite spending a thousand minutes more on the pitch. And at the end of the season, instead of thanking him, he thanked the fans. For their support, because in no other club were the stands so tolerant of his ineffectiveness.
With each passing year, the Wisła team lowers the bar of expectations. This loyalty has become a value in itself. Fans have stopped coming to the stadium just because another branded team has arrived and they will be able to watch an interesting spectacle. They come because they simply want to spend some time with their team and they are already addicted to it. Yes, they reproach the president, but on social media the topic quickly burns out, because one fight follows another. On Thursday night, a defeat, on Friday morning we start a new project. I wonder if someone will buy the club's shares or come in the summer transfer window...
