Big changes to the legendary race. They've just announced them
It will be the fourth time in five years that the TdF will start outside France. In 2022 it will start in Copenhagen, in 2023 in Bilbao and in 2024 in Florence. In 2025 it is scheduled to start in Lille.
The team time trial was last on the Tour programme in 2019 in Brussels. It will start the race for the first time in its history.
The Catalan capital, which has hosted stages of the Tour de France three times (1957, 1965 and 2009), has a long history of cycling, particularly on the roads of Montjuic, which has hosted stages of the Vuelta a Espana and Volta a Catalunya, as well as road races at the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
The main arena of the 1992 Olympic Games will also be the focal point of the first two stages, on July 4 and 5, of the edition scheduled for 2026. The finish line of the inaugural team time trial (19.7 km) and the next stage (178 km) will be on Montjuic hill in front of the Olympic Stadium. (PAP)
