Body of Polish woman found in Tatra Mountains. She is a famous mountaineer

On Sunday, June 15, Slovak rescue services began a search for a Polish woman who went missing in the area of Piargová Dolinka under the Koprovsky peak in the High Tatras. The Slovak Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) reported that TOPR rescuers had previously reported the fall of the 76-year-old tourist. A helicopter and six rescuers with three dogs, a drone and two volunteer mountain rescuers were involved in the operation.
Krystyna Palmowska is dead. Her body was found in the Tatra MountainsRescue services reported sad news. A woman's body was found in one of the ravines. Rescuers reported that the 76-year-old suffered fatal injuries when she fell through rocky terrain, probably from the Przybylińska Pass area. As it turned out, the deceased was Krystyna Palmowska , a legend of Polish Himalayan climbing.
"Krystyna Palmowska, an outstanding mountaineer and climber, has died. She practiced mountaineering mostly in women's teams, from 1969 usually with Anna Czerwińska, climbing some of the most difficult routes in the Tatras, e.g. on the walls of Kazalnica Mięguszowiecka and Mały Młynarz, as well as similar routes in winter," recalls the Polish Mountaineering Association.
PZA reminded us that Krystyna Palmowska could boast numerous achievements. "She climbed in the Alps in 1974, 1977 and 1978, making, with Anna Czerwińska, the second all-female ascent of the Matterhorn north face. Since 1975, she has taken part in many Polish and international expeditions to the Karakorum and the Himalayas," we read in a post on social media.
What is more, the first all-female ascent of Rakaposhi (7,788 m) in 1979 with Anna Czerwińska was also a success. In 1983, Krystyna Palmowska became the first woman in the world to stand on the summit of Broad Peak (8,051 m). Two years later, she conquered Nanga Parbat (8,125 m) – this was the first ascent in a team composed of women only.
