An exhibition football match between the legends of the Polish and Brazilian national teams was played at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów. The match, whose number 1 star was the winner of the Golden Ball in 2005, former midfielder of FC Barcelona AC Milan Ronaldinho, also featured Kamil Grosicki from Pogoń.

Grosicki entered the pitch in the starting line-up of the Poles. The match ended in a 2:2 draw. The goals for the Brazilians were scored by Diego Souza and Andre Santos. The author of both goals for the hosts was Maciej Makuszewski. The match ended in a 2:2 draw in regular time, and in the penalty shootout the Poles proved to be better 4:2. One of the decisive goals in the penalty shootout series was scored by the captain of Pogoń.

The stadium in Chorzów was filled with over 54 thousand fans on Saturday. Players well known to football fans ran onto the pitch in both teams. In addition to "Grosik", Jakub Błaszczykowski, Łukasz Piszczek, Michał Pazdan, Jakub Wawrzyniak and Artur Boruc played in the White and Reds. On the Brazilian side, the main star was Ronaldinho, but Helton, Maicon and the former Polish national team player from Brazil, Roger Guerreiro, also played.

The match did not resemble a friendly match. It was played at a good pace, and the Poles created several goal-scoring opportunities in the first half. However, the Brazilians were more effective. In the 27th minute, Ronaldinho led a counterattack, Andre Santos crossed for Diego Souza, who beat Artur Boruc. The Canarinhos showed increasing freedom and finesse in their play. There was no shortage of technical moves and opportunities in front of both goals.

The White and Reds equalized in the 65th minute, when Makuszewski effectively finished off an action by Paweł Brożek and Artur Jędrzejczyk. That was not the end of the goals. In the 79th minute, Rafał Gikiewicz was defeated by former Arsenal player Andre Santos. The match ended in a 2:2 draw, after Makuszewski's second goal. After the final whistle, both teams went to a penalty shootout. The Poles proved to be flawless in them. Grosicki made a great cut-away shot, and Gikiewicz defended two shots by the Brazilians. Kamil Wilczek sealed the 4-2 win. (voivodeship)

When the event organizers assured that they would be able to fill the stands of the Chorzów arena, it seemed unlikely, but they did it. The friendly match of the current Polish national team was watched there on June 6 by 36,000 fans.

Meanwhile, it turned out that the former football stars attracted a lot of people. Two hours before the match, the streets leading to the stadium were completely jammed. Ambulances and police cars had problems getting through. Even the stands usually assigned to journalists were occupied in the stands.

Before the game began, the Brazilian star received symbolic keys to the city and a Ruch T-shirt with his surname from the mayor of Chorzów, Szymon Michałek.

The hosts’ starting line-up included goalkeeper Artur Boruc, Kamil Glik, Łukasz Piszczek, Kamil Grosicki and captain Jakub Błaszczykowski.

The Brazilian captain was of course Ronaldinho, who played as number 10. He was the last to enter the pitch for the presentation, and was greeted standing by the spectators. The fans also gave a very warm welcome to the coach Nawałka and Błaszczykowski, dressed in an elegant suit.

The visiting team included the former Polish international Roger Guerreiro from Brazil.

The match started with former international referee and president of the Polish Football Association, Michał Listkiewicz, and was replaced after 10 minutes by Ewa Augustyn.

The pace of the match – for obvious reasons – was not stunning, but the players from both teams showed some great moves. The Brazilian goalkeeper Helton had much more work, but he was not defeated. In the 27th minute, Diego Souza scored with a header from close range.

In the Polish team, Grosicki was particularly active on the left wing, who officially ended his international career in the match against Moldova. The changes were fleeting, with Ronaldinho's son appearing on the pitch for the visiting team.

The fans had a great time, and a "Mexican wave" ran around the stands several times.

After the break, the actions of the white and reds were more dangerous again. Maciej Makuszewski hit the crossbar from a distance, Sławomir Peszko missed from close range. In the 65th minute, Makuszewski made no mistake and equalized, finishing a fast, coherent action.

The Poles had several more excellent opportunities to take the lead, but... the goal was scored by their rivals. Andre Santos defeated Rafał Gikiewicz, who replaced Boruc in the second half.

Makuszewski equalized. Initially, his goal was disallowed due to offside, but after a moment the referee pointed to the center of the pitch, showing with a smile that she had used video analysis.

In added time, the visitors were saved once again by the crossbar and the game ended in a 2:2 draw. After the final whistle, a penalty shootout was played. The Poles won 4-2.

The nearly 45-year-old Ronaldinho Gaucho ended his career in 2018. He was the winner of the Golden Ball in 2005 (he was voted FIFA's best player in 2004-2005), and this took place during his time at Barcelona, with whom he won the Champions League and twice in the Spanish top league. Before that, he played for Paris Saint-Germain, and later - in Milan. His last club was Fluminense - until autumn 2015.

He played 97 matches for Brazil, scoring 33 goals. On Saturday, he left the pitch in the 72nd minute.
