Four-time Polish champion dies! Shock in the world of sports

During his career, Mirosław Formela won four gold medals at the Polish Championships and three indoor titles.

"It is with deep regret that we received the news of Mirosław Formela's death. We would like to express our sincere condolences and sorrow to the family, loved ones and friends from the track and athletics stadiums and halls," it was said in a statement regarding Formela's death.

Formela specialized in long-distance running, mainly 800 and 1500 meters. In his career, he took part in, among others, the European Championships (2006) in an open stadium and in the World Indoor Championships (2003 and 2004) and the European Championships, also indoor (2005). During the 2004 IAAF World Championships organized in Budapest, the Pole took 5th place in the final.

He won the Polish championship four times, in the 800 meters in 2003 and 2004 and in the 1500 meters – in 2005 and 2006. These are results achieved in outdoor facilities. How did Formela cope indoors during the national championship? The athlete has three gold medals to his credit – in the 800 meters (2005) and in the 1500 m (2003 and 2004).

In the case of indoor competition, Formela managed to achieve the 5th best result in history in the 1500-meter race. The Polish athlete finished the race from Spała on February 6, 2005 with a time of 3:39.88 s. This was the fifth best result in the history of Polish indoor track and field over a distance of 1500 m.

Formela's departure is a huge loss for the sports community. This is evident, among other things, in the posts under the tragic information that appeared on Thursday (i.e. 22.05) morning.

The cause of the former athlete's death has not been made public.
