He played in the fifth league, crushed the Poles. These pictures say it all
Correspondence from Žilina
– How are the moods? – this question was asked regularly at the stadium in Žilina on Tuesday afternoon. After two painful defeats, the atmosphere around the Polish U-21 team was not the best and no one was saying that they believed in a surprise. We could still talk about hope, but now it was about something else. About fighting for at least a draw, for a good match and no embarrassment. We were wrong here too.
– The first goal we conceded was bizarre – Adam Majewski explained. The problem is that we have conceded quite a few such bizarre goals resulting from individual mistakes in this tournament. And explaining what happened next is simply... bizarre, exactly.
The first goal lost? Oh well, it can be made up for. The Poles had such a plan, but according to the coach... they were so tense with the desire to win that they lost the ball immediately. Just a few seconds, a shot by the Frenchman and we could have forgotten about even a dignified farewell to the tournament.
Djaoui Cisse scored another goal later and assisted the first goal for France. On the pitch that day, he looked like a boy playing in school with kids a few years younger. He was taller, more skilled and more creative.
– Where did he come from? – I thought then. The answer surprised me a lot.
The French like at a good party. It was a chasmThe 21-year-old is a player for Stade Rennais, but he started this season in... the fifth division reserves. It was only later that he started playing in Ligue 1, and there he played just over a thousand minutes. What's more, he has only spent one minute on the pitch at the European Championships so far. And what he did on Tuesday in Žilina certainly doesn't speak well of us.
The French themselves probably didn't believe in Cisse's performance either. When the announcer announced that he had been chosen as the player of the match, the celebration began. In principle, there was no other option and only a midfielder could be recognized, but then his teammates ran up, started pouring water on him and celebrated as if they had just become the champions of Europe.
And that's not all. Since Djaoui Cisse played so well, he was selected to take part in the press conference. And it must have been a debut for him, since two players went there with him, recorded everything and asked him questions.
The 21-year-old answered questions, but the whole environment was clearly new and a bit overwhelming for him. His colleagues helped him a lot, though, and every now and then they ended up laughing together.
A few dozen minutes later, not much had changed. The Tricolours made it through the mixed zone in such a mood as if they were heading to a good party. The Poles were just finishing that party. The problem was that it wasn't good.
– On a school scale, I would give us a three. We lost three matches, there is no question of positive assessments – said Kacper Kozłowski.
And unfortunately we have to agree with that. Our hopes were high again, but the match with Georgia (1:2) showed us that it wouldn't be easy. After that, since we're on the party thread, there was only a heavy hangover. Now, however, we can't ask - "was it worth going crazy like that?"
