He slams the promoter of the Grand Prix series. He talks about his failure
Discovery Sports Events, when it took over the rights to organize the Speedway World Championships a few years ago, announced that it would take speedway to a higher level. The Speedway Grand Prix series was supposed to go beyond Europe and finally become a permanent fixture in major cities. For now, we have a completely different situation.
The list of shortcomings associated with the series of competitions that determine the best speedway rider in the world is very long. Difficulties related to television broadcasts, a complicated system for selecting finalists, changes in regulations that overshadow long-proven methods, additionally scored sprints and qualifications based on a system that - as training before the competition in Warsaw proved - raises a lot of misunderstandings and doubts. These are just a few examples confirming that the promoter of the Grand Prix series has lost himself in the news, which leads to nothing good.
- I've already mentioned it, but I'm not a fan of the way Discovery manages the series - says Dawid Stachyra in an interview with Przegląd Sportowy Onet. - The competitors invited to the series are geographically in the background to the rest of the field, but that's probably not the biggest problem. This season, two rounds of the Grand Prix will be held in Manchester, which is complete nonsense and proof that the promoter of the series has no idea for it. Last year, four rounds were held in Poland, including two in Manchester. It's a failure of the series and the organizers.
They want to make life difficult for PolesIt seems that DSE does not "feel" the dark sport at all. This is evidenced by the increasingly important sprints for the final classification, followed by only a handful of fans, or the fact that direct duels have ceased to decide the promotion to the play-offs in the case of an equal number of places. Now the most important thing is the times. Additionally, the changing format of the competition and the regulations allowing the competitor from tenth place after the regular round to win the competition are not without significance. Apart from the issue of points after the play-offs, which is illogical for many fans.
- This is a very broad topic, because let's not hide the fact that some of the not-so-sports movements are there to make life more difficult for Poles. We can't turn speedway into a simulation of Formula 1, and unfortunately this is heading in that direction. I say this with regret, but the Grand Prix was better before Discovery took over its management - ends Stachyra.
Perhaps the situation would be different if Polish officials had more to say about the regulations. Meanwhile, the director of the Track Racing Commission is the Italian Armando Castagna, who has the full support of the FIM president Jorge Viegas, while the Polish vote is practically irrelevant. After none of the permanent wild cards went to a representative of our country, Polish officials loudly announced the consequences. Perhaps they are preparing some bombshell in the corridors, but it seems that the whole matter, as always, has fallen apart. The agreed agreement related to the organization of the Grand Prix round at the PGE National Stadium in Warsaw in 2027 is the best proof that Polish speedway is once again saving the image of the declining series.
