UFC legend up against the wall! Fans demand he take away his championship belt

Jon Jones (28-1-0 1 NC), the current UFC heavyweight champion, has been avoiding a return to the octagon for months. Meanwhile, Englishman Tom Aspinall (15-3-0), the holder of the interim belt, is still waiting for a unification fight that, according to many, could elevate him to the top of the heavyweight division. In the meantime, frustrated fans are not staying passive - they are signing an online petition demanding that Jones' title be stripped.
Since his victory over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November 2024 , the 37-year-old has remained inactive. He has fought just two fights in the last five years, and his recent statements suggesting a possible end to his career only deepen the frustration of fans. The American's championship reign clearly hinders the development of the entire weight class. Many observers believe that he is blocking the dynamic development of this division, the future of which is embodied by Aspinall - an active fighter, regularly winning and even successfully defending his interim title, as was the case in his last fight with Curtis Blaydes (18-5-0).

The lack of a decision on the unification fight is irritating not only the fighters but also the fans. Over 35 thousand people have already signed an online petition demanding that the championship belt be stripped from the inactive "Bones", and it is worth mentioning that this number is still growing. In their opinion, a champion who does not intend to fight should not slow down the pace of development of undoubtedly one of the most interesting weight classes in the UFC, which is full of ready-to-fight contenders.
Although Dana White has assured in interviews that Jones will return to the cage in 2025, specifics are still lacking. There is speculation that the ideal date for the big fight could be November's UFC 322 at the legendary Madison Square Garden. For now, however, Aspinall, the longest reigning interim champion in UFC history, remains without a fight - ready for the biggest fight of his career, the date of which is still unknown.
