Robert Lewandowski Responds Sharply to Criticism: 'Not Everyone Has to Like Me'

As we reported late Friday afternoon, "Lewy" came to Katowice to visit the Polish national team, which was barracked in a hotel, just before a friendly match with Moldova. Robert Lewandowski was also present at the Silesian Stadium. The captain of the national team sat down in the TVP Sport studio, explaining the huge commotion that his decision to leave the June training camp of the national team caused in the country.
Robert Lewandowski has strong words for criticismLet us recall that before the June squad window began, Lewandowski informed via social media that he would not appear at the training camp . As the FC Barcelona striker emphasized, the decision was made in agreement with coach Michał Probierz.
However, this was not enough for the public. Lewandowski's head was heavily criticized. There were even doubts whether "Lewy" still deserved the captain's armband, considering how important a match RL9 would miss.
In addition to the friendly match with Moldova, the Poles will play away against Finland. This will be a match within the qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup.
Lewandowski's reaction? It must be admitted, exceptionally sincere.
– Sometimes you have to know that these decisions are hard. I'm not saying that I always make perfect decisions, that I don't make mistakes. I make mistakes, I'm a human being, but I'm often probably judged as, as I said, a product, not as a person [...] in fact, the injury disrupted it all a bit, I say, not only the physical aspect, but also the mental aspect was important here and that's why I made such a decision. I know that not everyone has to agree with my decision. I also don't assume that everyone has to like me, but it seems to me that there should be this respect. And whether I make such a decision, you can agree or disagree, but there should always be this respect at the end – he said in an interview for TVP Sport.
It seems that the whole fuss about Lewandowski's decision, however, seems to be greatly exaggerated. The footballer will turn 37 in August of this year, having played a lot of minutes for the Pride of Catalonia in the club season. What's more, towards the end of the campaign the player suffered an injury that ruled him out of a large part of the final part of the games.
In addition, Lewandowski once again emphasized that he wanted to surprise Kamil Grosicki by taking part in his exceptional farewell with fans. This information, i.e. the captain's appearance regardless of the lack of call-up, however, leaked on Friday morning in the Polish media.
