Iga Świątek has played two matches on the courts in South Korea. First, the WTA No. 2 defeated Sorana Cirstea in the second round, before facing Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinals.

This second clash promised to be a blockbuster, as it pitted the two Wimbledon champions against each other from the last two editions. The Czech also won the French Open in 2021 and has defeated the Polish player twice in her career.

Our player, however, rose to the occasion and, as the tournament's number one seed, defeated her lower-ranked opponent, advancing to the semifinals. In that semifinal, she will unexpectedly face Joint. The Australian defeated third-seeded Clara Tauson in the previous round. She is currently ranked 46th in the WTA rankings.

This will be the first clash between the two tennis players in history.
