That's why Legia Warsaw didn't reach an agreement with Alexei Shpilewski. We know the backstage
Even though the season in PKO BP Ekstraklasa ended some time ago and the clubs are preparing for the next games, Legia Warsaw still has not made a key decision. It is still unknown who will be the new coach after Goncalo Feio did not extend his contract.
The favourite to take over the Portuguese's position was Szpilewski, who had already chosen an apartment in Warsaw. Ultimately, the talks stalled and ended in failure.
As it turns out, the Belarusian was expecting five transfers at the start. However, he heard from Legia that the club did not have that much money. Let us recall that the capital team spent over 7 million euros on new players last season, but most of the new players have not proven themselves so far. Another problem in negotiations with the 37-year-old was the issue of his high earnings.
— One of his conditions was five transfers. He said that if Legia wanted to build a serious and strong team, the club had to acquire five new players. He was told that there was no money for that. Another discrepancy was Szpilewski's earnings — reveals Wołosik.
— It's true, Legia gave half of what the coach expected. Łukasz Masłowski knows Szpilewski best from the Polish market, because they met in Germany. He represented the Belarusian when Marek Papszun talked to Legia, when she was still the coach of Raków. He told me that Szpilewski was a very expensive coach. He admitted then that only Legia could afford him — says Olkowicz.
— As it turns out, Michał Żewłakow does not have the decision-making power we heard. We heard that he is supposed to have full authority when it comes to hiring a coach, which would be natural — he adds.
New favourite to take over Legia WarsawNow the favorite to work at Legia is the former coach of the Romanian national team, Edward Iordanescu. According to the fanatik.ro portal, he is to sign a two-year contract with a salary of 40,000 euros per month, or 480,000 euros per year. The contract will also include large bonuses for European cups. The main goal, however, will be the Polish championship.
Legia will begin preparations for the new season on June 16. On July 10, Legia will play their first match in the first round of Europa League qualifying.
