Navarro, seeded number "3", started the tournament in the second round thanks to a bye. However, she had to work hard in her first match - after a three-set battle, she defeated Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia 1-6, 7-6(4), 6-3.
Anisimova had a much longer path to the quarterfinals. The American, number "8" in the tournament bracket, first fought a close duel with Jodie Burrage (4:6, 6:3, 6:4), and then confidently dealt with another representative of the hosts, Sonaya Kartal, winning 6:1, 6:3.
The two players met earlier this year - in the April quarterfinals of the tournament in Charleston. Anisimova proved better then, defeating Navarro 7:5, 7:6(1) in two even sets.
