The death of Tomasz Mentelski was announced on Friday afternoon by the City Hall in Kuźnia Raciborska.
"It is with deep sadness and regret that we inform you that Tomasz Mentelski, President of KS Stal Kuźnia Raciborska, has tragically passed away. His sudden departure is a huge blow to his family, friends and all who knew and valued him. In these difficult moments, we ask that you respect the privacy of the family and loved ones of the deceased. We join in the pain of all those affected by this loss," it was written via Facebook.

Tomasz Mentelski is dead. Tragic car accident on A4A fatal accident occurred on Friday (May 9) on the 318th kilometer of the A4 motorway towards Katowice.
"The incident involved two passenger cars (Skoda and BMW) and a truck. According to the Provincial Police Headquarters in Katowice, the accident resulted in the death of the 46-year-old truck driver - Tomasz Mentelski. The other participants did not suffer any serious injuries. The causes of the accident are not yet known. […] This is a huge loss for the entire local sports community - Tomasz was not only a dedicated footballer, but also a man full of passion, commitment and heart for football. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family, loved ones and the entire football community. We join in pain and mourning. May he rest in peace," we read on the GKS Dębu Gaszowice profile on social media.

"Unofficially, I managed to find out that the silver BMW was moving at high speed before the accident. It allegedly blocked the way of the Skoda, which in turn blocked the way of the truck. However, this version has not been confirmed by the police. The scale of the destruction after the accident was enormous. Parts of the overturned tractor-trailer and semi-trailer were scattered over a fairly large area, and some parts of the vehicle were off the road, on a railway line running under the expressway," we read in the entry posted on Friday afternoon.
Regardless of the actual course of the accident, we are talking about a huge tragedy. Mentelski was 46. In football, he represented lower league clubs for many years, including LZS Łuków Śląski, GKS Dąb Gaszowice, and then KS Stal Kuźnia Raciborska. He became president of the latter in August 2024.
