Pia Skrzyszowska, Ewa Swoboda and Jakub Szymański are in the Polish national team for the European Indoor Athletics Championships, which will take place from 6 to 9 March in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. The Polish national team consists of 29 competitors.

The president of the Polish Athletics Association, Sebastian Chmara, admitted that a team in which the experience of stars is mixed with youth will fly to the Netherlands.

"We are sending a really interesting team to Apeldoorn. It includes world-class stars such as Ewa Swoboda, Pia Skrzyszowska, Piotr Lisek, Konrad Bukowiecki and Jakub Szymański. There will also be no shortage of young competitors, for example the three men registered for the 800-meter run. Ania Wielgosz's start looks interesting. I hope that our team will show its best side and provide the fans with a lot of really good emotions," said the head of the PZLA, quoted in the press release and on the federation's website.

One of the leaders of the team will be Szymański, who has been in great form recently. The SKLA Sopot hurdler has already broken the Polish record twice this season. During the ORLEN Cup competition in Łódź, he achieved 7.39 – the best result in Europe this year and the second in history on the Old Continent.

"I've already forgotten about the minor strain I suffered before the meeting in Toruń. I feel very good and my form is at a high level. In Apeldoorn I will do everything in my power to run perfectly. The goal is gold," Szymański emphasized.

Among those who will not be competing in the Netherlands is Natalia Bukowiecka, the bronze medalist from the Paris Olympics in the 400 m race, who has not been at full strength for several weeks.

Maria Żodzik also withdrew from the European Indoor Championships. The Podlasia Białystok athlete achieved 1.98 m in the high jump in Gorzów Wielkopolski at the end of January – at that time it was the best result in the world.

"Maria Żodzik is undergoing treatment for a minor injury. She is preparing for the summer season, which is a priority," explained PZLA sports director Krzysztof Kęcki.
