Robert Johansson has been named to the Norwegian ski jumping squad for the upcoming FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. The Olympic multi-medalist will replace Halvor Egner Granerud, who was injured during preparations for the event.

Last week it was announced that Halvor Egner Granerud would not be taking part in the target event of this season, the world championships in his native Trondheim . The two-time winner of the Crystal Globe was ruled out of the race due to a knee injury sustained during one of the training sessions in Lillehammer.

Granerud's replacement has now been announced. Robert Johansson has taken his place in the Norwegian national team. The 34-year-old is a three-time Olympic medalist: in 2018 in Pyeongchang he won team gold and two individual bronze medals - on the normal and large facility.

Johansson's current season, however, has not been a successful one. He has competed in only eight World Cup competitions, scoring three points. He has been doing better recently at the lower level. During the Continental Cup weekend in Iron Mountain, he triumphed in two competitions and stood on the lowest step of the podium once.

In addition to Johansson, Norwegian national team coach Magnus Brevik has called up Johann Andre Forfang, Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal, Marius Lindvik, Benjamin Oestvold and Robin Pedersen for the championship.

The World Championships in Trondheim will take place from 27.02 to 8.03. The ski jumpers will start their competition on 1 March, when the qualifications for the normal hill competitions are planned.
