A Pole fell from a height of 100 meters. A tragic end to the journey

A Pole fell from a height of 100 meters. A tragic end to the journey

The incident occurred early in the evening last Sunday (July 6). The 46-year-old from Poland was heading towards Rumanowa Dolinka in the Slovak part of the High Tatras – the northernmost branch of the Złomisk Valley. During the accident, the man was under the peak of Ganek and fell from a height of 100 meters. It ended tragically for him.

Tragic accident in the Tatra Mountains

After the man fell to the spot, a rescue team was immediately called. The helicopter arrived quickly, but it turned out that the Pole had suffered fatal injuries, and the doctor declared him dead. Another tourist, who was hiking with the 46-year-old, was transported to the area of Štrbské Pleso.

What exactly happened? That day in the Tatras there were good conditions for climbing, so tourists could seemingly feel safe. However, this situation proves that even in good weather, a moment of inattention is enough for a tragedy to occur. It is important to remember that the trails can always be slippery, rocky and steep. Do not approach too close to precipices, uncertain points or deviate from the marked routes. You also need to assess your skills and physical condition well.

The place where the tourists were can be considered demanding. Wielki Ganek is a massif with a height of 2,462 m. Together with two lower peaks - Pośredni and Mały Ganek - it creates a characteristic culmination above Rumanowa Dolinka. This is a place recommended for trips for experienced mountaineers, because you have to be ready for climbing routes.

Conditions are about to change

Although the conditions in the Slovak Tatras were not the worst over the weekend, rescuers are warning about the weather that is expected to continue over the next few days. "From Monday, we can expect a period of long-term and sometimes intense rainfall. You should watch out for possible flooding of trails, and when planning your routes, take into account much more difficult conditions than in recent days." - we read on the website tatromaniak.pl.
