European country struggles with flight delays. Poles will feel it during the holidays

Holiday flights to Greece can cause many problems for passengers. This year, however, the cause of the difficulties will not only be increased traffic caused by holidays. The delays that will take over airports across the country this summer are primarily due to the crisis in the Middle East, which resulted in mass redirections of routes to the area of Southeastern Europe.

The sky over Greece is filling up

Travelers who have chosen Greece as their holiday destination this summer will have to arm themselves with patience. According to Greek media, in the week of June 16-22 alone, fourteen percent of all delays in Europe were related to flights to that country. "The overloaded air traffic management system in Greece has been further burdened by restrictions caused by the escalation of tensions in the Middle East and the resulting change of flight routes through Greek airspace," we read. The problem is primarily occurring at Athens Airport, which connects the capital of mainland Greece with the holiday islands.

It's even worse in this country

There is no denying that despite the crisis, Greece is still in a better situation than any other large European country. At the moment, the largest number of delays on the continent, as much as forty percent, occur in France. Here, however, the main cause is not the holidays or tensions in the Middle East, but staff shortages and air traffic controller strikes. Spain is also not doing so well, accounting for as much as twelve percent of flight delays in Europe.

It is worth remembering that in the case of delays resulting from reasons beyond the airline's control, passengers are not entitled to compensation. Changes are to be introduced soon that will further complicate efforts to obtain compensation for an excessively long journey. The minimum aircraft delay time required to submit a claim is to be increased from three to four hours. Also read: Several dozen hours at the airport.
