Not Just Barbie! Another Iconic Toy Gets Its Own Movie

Following the success of Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," toy giant Mattel is continuing its search for another of its brands to be the subject of a feature film. Joining previously announced projects is a production with the working title "Hot Wheels." It will be directed by "Wicked" creator John M. Chu.
First introduced in 1968, the Hot Wheels toy line remains popular to this day. Designed primarily for children, these cars also appealed to adults, cementing their global appeal.
This is all thanks to a license to reproduce real car brands and the ability to collect them in miniature form, based on the original blueprints used to create the cars. Their rival, the British miniature car manufacturer Matchbox, was acquired by Mattel.
Mattel and Warner Bros. have begun work on a film inspired by Hot Wheels toys. While plot details are not yet available, it is known that the production will feature top car brands.
These cars join other toy brands owned by Mattel and awaiting their "own" films. These include not only toys like Polly Pocket, but also family games like "Uno." The game is worth the candle – the film inspired by the Barbie doll grossed $400 million.
In a statement sent to the media, Chu emphasized that playing with Hot Wheels cars has never been limited to speed alone, but above all, it has stimulated imagination, built relationships, and evoked the excitement of play itself. The creator is thrilled with the opportunity and announces that the Hot Wheels brand will now head in a completely new direction.
Who will make a Hot Wheels movie? The Hot Wheels film will be written by Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier , the creators of the second installment of "Creed." Mattel producer Robbie Brenner , quoted by Variety, points to Chu's ability to create rich and complex worlds as the driving force behind his choice of director. It's also significant that his expansive storyline is accompanied by exciting cinematography, transforming his projects into visual spectacles.
