After dozens of deaths, Texas searches for missing people awaiting more rain

Texas is under a rain watch, with storms likely in Austin, San Antonio and surrounding areas, with volumes of up to 10 inches (250 mm), according to the U.S. Weather Service. "We're kind of saturated right now, so any additional amounts could cause flooding," meteorologist Jason Runyen told The New York Times.

The state government called in rescue workers to search for a group of missing girls. They were part of a group of nearly 750 children who attended the Christian camp for girls, Camp Mystic, near the Guadalupe River, which overflowed, causing flooding. President Donald Trump's administration called in the Coast Guard and the Federal Disaster Response Agency.

Dogs helped residents

Dogs saved residents by barking and scratching at the doors of their homes . Ricky Gonzalez, who was with a group of friends, said that one of the dogs, Nash, started scratching at the door while they were sleeping. One of the friends opened the curtain and saw one of the cars being swept away by the current. Then, everyone woke up.

Gonzalez told the TV station that the water quickly rose to the second floor of the house. The group then prepared to escape through two windows in the attic. According to him, a family driving by saw them and helped rescue them.
