It was considered "unrealistic" and even disproportionate given the current context, which is more favorable to military and defense investment, but the intention to double the European budget for science is on the table. The European Commission's plan for the 2028-2034 Framework Program (FP10) envisages an increase in the budget to €175 billion—almost double the €93 billion allocated in the current funding program (for the 2021-2027 period).
