Businessman Joaquim Oliveira has died

Businessman Joaquim Oliveira died this Saturday, aged 78, due to a hospital bacteria contracted during treatment.
Joaquim Oliveira was the founder and chairman of the board of directors of Sport TV, and former owner of the Global Media Group – which included Diário de Notícias, Jornal de Notícias and TSF.
A man with a strong presence in Portuguese football over the past few decades, he led several companies within the Controlinveste group, most notably Olivedesportos, the most influential company in Portuguese football when it comes to television rights. Through this company, he was also a major shareholder in FC Porto's SAD and invested in the SADs of Benfica and Braga.
A businessman from Penafiel, he distinguished himself in television rights, advertising, and sports marketing, particularly in football, where he was a pioneer in several sectors. He had strong ties to the media industry and also had several businesses in the entertainment industry.
The president of the FPF highlighted Joaquim Oliveira's legacy in an official statement, stating that “Joaquim Oliveira was a very important figure in the promotion and development of Portuguese football, which is undeniably poorer with his departure.”
Pedro Proença added that “to the family, especially his wife and children, and to all those who had the privilege of spending time with him, I leave, on my own behalf, and on behalf of the Portuguese Football Federation, my deepest condolences.”
