Alcoutim and Teach For Portugal continue to combat educational inequalities

Alcoutim City Council recently approved the renewal of a collaboration agreement with Teach For Portugal, with a view to continuing to implement a program to combat educational inequalities in the municipality's School Group.
This strategic partnership aims to promote equity in access to education by supporting students in more vulnerable contexts and contributing to their academic success.
It should be noted that the Teach for Portugal Leadership Development Program took its first steps in the municipality in the 2021/2022 academic year and that in the previous academic year it covered 66 students from five classes in the 1st and 3rd cycles.
The program will place two highly qualified mentors in the county's schools, who will work alongside teachers and educational teams, developing social-emotional skills and promoting student engagement in their learning.
In addition to classroom work, mentors also carry out educational and recreational activities, fostering students' personal development.
For Paulo Paulino, Mayor of Alcoutim, this collaboration is a fundamental step toward ensuring fairer education in the region.
"We believe that all children and young people in our municipality deserve equal opportunities to reach their potential. This agreement with Teach for Portugal represents an investment in the future of our community, through a stronger, more cohesive public school that is closer to our students," the mayor stated.
To enable the program to be implemented at the Alcoutim School Group over the next two years, the municipality is providing Teach for Portugal with financial support worth €40,000 to support the project's implementation.
