Arezo keeps his future at Grêmio a mystery: 'It's not up to me'

Winning the Recopa Gaúcha, after the victory over São José, on Tuesday (8), was symbolic for Grêmio . After all, it represented the first title for some of its players, as is the case with Arezo. The Uruguayan striker is going through a moment of uncertainty, as he does not know if he will remain at the club.

Recently, in an interview with a newspaper in his home country, he hinted at the possibility of returning to Peñarol. During the celebrations after securing the Recopa Gaúcha trophy, in an interview with 'Rádio Gaúcha,' the number 19 left open the possibility of continuing at the club.

"It's an unknown. We're here focused on what's happening. For now, there's nothing new. It doesn't depend on me. I belong here ( to the club ), it doesn't depend on me. This is the club that signed me, I'm happy here," said Arezo.

Club waiting for a response

When asked about the situation the center forward is in, coach Mano Menezes said he had a direct conversation and that the player is still in the coaching staff's plans.

"We need to establish a transparent relationship, which is what Grêmio did with Arezo, and that's what will guide any kind of relationship. The player is very committed to doing his part as a professional every day. That's what interests me. If I don't see that in him, I'll be the first to say, 'This isn't working,' but that's not the case," the manager stated.

Despite the uncertain situation, the center forward started in Braithwaite's absence and even conceded the penalty that Cristaldo missed. The Uruguayan also cited the significance of this trophy.

"Every title, obviously, brings its share of happiness. It's also very important to win this type of match to get the rest of the season off to a good start," he said.

According to recent reports, Grêmio rejected Peñarol's loan offer, and the player has been notified. The club's priority is to sign him permanently, as it aims to recoup the R$17 million investment made in July of last year.
