Coimbra participated in the World Trauma Simulation Championship

A team, made up of six students from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC) and the Coimbra School of Nursing (ESEnfc), participated in the Trauma Simulation World Championship, which took place in Campinas, Brazil.
The team presented a multidisciplinary project developed by the Trauma Committee of the Coimbra Local Health Unit (ULS), which is currently used by the institution's Emergency Department Trauma teams. The simulation competition, which preceded the first edition of the World Congress of Trauma and Emergency Leagues (WCTEL), attracted contributions from over a thousand participants.
Students Diogo Saldanha, Elisa Carvalho, Inês Martins, Isabel Rodrigues, Rafael Farinha and Sara Gama, under the guidance of Henrique Alexandrino and Rui Batista, participated in more than 30 simulated scenarios in the Trauma and Emergency areas, with the need to identify and resolve life-threatening situations in simulated patients.
"With very positive participation and an excellent team spirit, students from these two institutions built and developed several skills, some of them general in the field of resuscitation in emergency scenarios, but they also acquired leadership and communication skills, which will certainly contribute to their future training," said the Coimbra University of Nursing (ULS) in a post on social media.
The next edition of WCTEL is scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, in 2026.
