Cristina Peixoto takes over leadership of UGT in Vila Real
Cristina Teixeira Peixoto assumes the presidency of UGT – Vila Real, following the resignation of Nataniel Araújo, who ceased his duties in this structure after being appointed Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Sea.
Nataniel Araújo said that his departure from the position is due to the fact that the new challenge is “very demanding”, which makes it “incompatible with the full and diligent exercise of the responsibilities inherent to the position of president of the UGT of Vila Real”.
Recognizing the need to guarantee continuity and stability in the management of the UGT in Vila Real, Nataniel Araújo proposed to the General Council that the position be assumed by Cristina Teixeira Peixoto, until then Executive Secretary of the structure and member of the secretariat representing the National Education Federation (FNE), with the proposal being “unanimously approved”.
Cristina Peixoto, who is also president of the Union of Educational Support Workers of the North Zone (STAAEZN), says that “it is with responsibility and a spirit of service that I accept this role, aware of the importance of representing the interests of workers in Vila Real. We will continue to defend a UGT that is close, participatory and attentive to local realities”.
The new president is committed to “strengthening the presence and intervention” of the UGT in the district, maintaining proximity to workers, promoting better working conditions and deepening ties with local communities, continuing the work developed by Nataniel Araújo.
