Father José Martins Registo gives name to square in Colmeal da Torre – Belmonte

The Municipal Executive of Belmonte has unanimously approved that the name of Father José Martins Registo will appear in a square next to the Colmeal da Torre Social Centre. The proposal was formalised, approved and sent by the Executive of the Union of Parishes of Belmonte and Colmeal da Torre.

The naming ceremony will take place during the celebrations of the Anniversary of the Colmeal da Torre Social Center, on July 13th.

It should be remembered that Father José Martins Registo passed away on May 30th, at the age of 88,

Father José Martins Registo passed away at the age of 88, on May 30. The priest, “in recent times” was living at the Home of the Social Center of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Colmeal da Torre, a town in the Municipality of Belmonte.

On the occasion, the executive of the Municipality of Belmonte decreed two days of municipal mourning, a tribute “to those who contributed so much” to this land, “leaving a legacy of faith, service and humanity that will endure in everyone’s memory”.

Father José Martins Registo was born on January 3, 1937, in Manteigas , and was ordained a priest on July 30, 1961, after attending the Diocesan Seminaries of Fundão and Guarda , by D. Policarpo da Costa Vaz, in Sé.

The priest, from the beginning, developed his pastoral work in parishes of the Archpriesthood of Manteigas/Belmonte, was also a professor of Morals for several years, and interrupted his parish service when he became mayor and professor at the Fundão Seminary.
