IL wants nationality to be included in crime reports and justice statistics

More data and greater transparency not only make it possible to put an end to stereotypes and stop feeding populist and perception-based phenomena, but also to create a true picture of reality and to build effective public policies, because they are based on facts. And when it comes to crime, the information currently known and compiled is clearly insufficient to meet needs, believes the Liberal Initiative (IL). The solution? Including in the Annual Internal Security Report (RASI) and in the Online Justice Statistics Portal not only data on gender and age but also on nationality and type of residence permit, "as well as on the country of origin, particularly of the perpetrators of the crime and victims of reported crime".
The Draft Resolution is signed by IL and was submitted to the Assembly today, with the Liberals asking for more detailed information about who commits crimes but also who is the target of criminal actions, in order to "improve public debate and combat misinformation, while fostering trust in democratic institutions and consolidating a scientific approach in the formulation of public policies".
IL stresses the importance of RASI, namely to provide "a global view of crime, as well as statistical indicators on the number of personnel, operational results and investments in infrastructure and equipment of the Security Forces and Services", as well as to allow "the discussion and implementation of public policies related to internal security to be supported by credible, reliable, transparent and complete data", allowing for continuous comparison and thus determining the evolution of phenomena and trends. However, it could be a much more useful tool if it included the full data that allows for analysis and mapping.
For IL, "the lack of information is a precursor to misinformation and a policy based on emotions" and the failure to provide all the data that would allow for a competent and fact-based analysis has only contributed to fueling "prejudices and stigmas", instead of "protecting and accurately portraying criminal dynamics".
In the draft resolution presented, the IL therefore requests that statistics on reported crime include "clear and complete information on the gender, age, nationality and type of residence or residence permit of the perpetrators of the crimes and victims", as a basis for the construction and implementation of appropriate public policies, and also to allow the use of concrete information to "identify patterns in crime, especially in transnational crimes, human trafficking, irregular immigration or drug trafficking networks". "It is in the fight against disinformation and the political exploitation of the statistical vacuum that the true value of analytical filigree is revealed. The lack of information is a precursor to disinformation and a policy based on emotions", the liberals also stress.
At the moment, in the section dedicated to crimes recorded by the police authorities, the Online Justice Statistics Portal only allows filtering and analysis of data on reported crimes based on the type of crime and the location where it occurred, while RASI "presents a geographical analysis of some types of crimes, but the information provided on the sociodemographic profile of those involved", victims or perpetrators, is reductive.
