José Junqueiro, former Socialist Party deputy and former Secretary of State, has died.
The information was given this Wednesday by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, in Parliament.
One of the PS's historic figures, Junqueiro was former Secretary of State for Local Administration, between 2009 and 2011. Before that, he was Secretary of State for Maritime and Port Administration, between 2000 and 2002, being in office at the time of the collapse of the Hintze Ribeiro Bridge, in Entre-os-Rios, which killed 59 people, on March 4, 2001.
He also served as a councilor on the Viseu City Council, where he was born. In fact, it was through Viseu that he was elected to the legislature for all six terms in which he served, including serving as vice-president of the caucus.
