Journalist reveals that midfielder will be signed by Chelsea for 457 million

Xavi Simons' contract situation is stirring up the mid-year transfer window. A standout performer for RB Leipzig in the 2024/25 season, the 22-year-old midfielder has 11 goals and 8 assists in 33 competitive matches.
Discovered by PSG and with a successful stint at PSV Eindhoven, the Dutchman is attracting attention from different markets, including outside of Europe.
Chelsea's proposal is the most advanced
The English team has demonstrated the greatest degree of progress in negotiations. According to journalist Nicolò Schira, Chelsea would be willing to pay €70 million (approximately R$457 million at the exchange rate) and offer a contract until June 2032.
According to Fabrizio Romano, "Xavi is interested in the transfer and open to joining Chelsea... direct negotiations are underway to agree details and terms of the contract."
Saudi interest drives competition
In addition to the London club, Saudi Arabian clubs such as Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli have also shown strong interest. Journalist Akram Konor revealed that Al-Hilal has officially entered the fray, with the player valued at £95 million (approximately R$713 million).
Still, there has been no definition of the athlete's final destination, although Chelsea is considered the main favorite.
Blues strategy involves offensive restructuring
After signing Liam Delap, João Pedro, and Jamie Gittens, and with Estêvão's arrival already confirmed, Chelsea intends to maintain a squad with up to nine attacking options. Even so, the club is dependent on the departure of players like João Félix, Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling, and Armando Broja, all of whom are not in the coaching staff's plans. Noni Madueke, for example, has already been negotiated with Arsenal.
Planning under the influence of internal movements
Christopher Nkunku, a target for Bayern Munich and Manchester United, is closer to leaving the squad. The Frenchman's departure would open up space for Simons, who can play centrally or on the left, which aligns with Enzo Maresca's tactical approach.
Chelsea even reduced their asking price for Nkunku from €60 million to €43.3 million to facilitate the transfer.
Strategic vision of the club
With their recent Club World Cup triumph and Champions League berth secured, Chelsea has become an attractive destination for emerging talent. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Simons's selection was a priority to add quality and versatility to the attack.
The club believes that the midfielder's arrival will bring a balance between youth and experience to the main group.
