Bombarral launches 1.4 million euro tender to build new municipal shipyard

The Bombarral Council, in the district of Leiria, decided today to launch a tender worth around 1.4 million euros (ME) to build a new municipal construction site.
The proposal was approved by the socialist majority, with the abstention of PSD councilors, at the municipal executive meeting, which was held behind closed doors.
"It has long been imperative to create decent working conditions for employees working in these services," said the mayor, Ricardo Fernandes, to the Lusa news agency.
The mayor also explained that the municipal construction sites are divided into two hubs, meaning there is a need to concentrate machinery and services to make them more operational.
60 employees work at the municipal shipyards.
The project has a cost of 1.3 million euros, plus VAT, and a completion period of five months, once started.
The new municipal shipyards in Bombarral will be built on land next to the São Brás site of the current shipyards.
At the same council meeting, the municipal executive decided to divide the costs of the work between 2025 (400 thousand euros) and 2026 (950 thousand euros).
