Judge's attack on CAAD met with shock and criticism

Judge Eliana Pinto criticized regulated arbitration. Academics and experts responded: what she said is unfounded—the rules exist and have been strengthened.
Three weeks after Eliana de Almeida Pinto, judge-secretary and spokesperson for the Superior Council of Administrative and Tax Courts, raised eyebrows when criticizing the Administrative Arbitration Center (CAAD), JE interviewed a group of experts who have been monitoring regulated arbitration since its inception. Without exception, the judge's doubts about the CAAD's independence, oversight mechanisms, and usefulness were dismissed and challenged. For this group of experts, Eliana Pinto's ideas lack support and ignore the practices that bring "rigor and transparency" to the system.
