Municipality obtains funding for energy transition plan

Municipality obtains funding for energy transition plan

The European Initiative EUCF – European City Facility is a European Union program that aims to boost the sustainable energy transition at local level, through financial and technical support for the development of investment concepts in sustainable energy projects.

Torre de Moncorvo City Council managed to secure this funding, with the approval of an application for the 7th call.

The support obtained will allow the Municipality to develop the Torre de Moncorvo Energy Transition Plan, “a strategic document aimed at decarbonizing the territory, increasing energy efficiency and promoting innovation in renewable energies”, the municipality explains in a statement.

The 7th EUCF call for proposals received approximately 300 applications from 21 European countries, of which only 71 were approved, three of which were from Portugal. The approval of Torre de Moncorvo's application “is a recognition of the Municipality's path and commitment to building a more sustainable, resilient and carbon-neutral territory”, it states in the same note.

The financial support granted, up to the amount of 60 thousand euros, will be used to implement a structural intangible investment, which will include the preparation of technical feasibility studies, market analyses, legal, economic and financial assessments.

This work will be the basis for mobilizing public and private financing, which will enable local investments in renewable energy, energy rehabilitation of buildings, sustainable mobility and other strategic areas of energy transition.

“With this approval, Torre de Moncorvo reinforces its climate ambition and positions itself as an example of good practice among small and medium-sized European municipalities, aligning its strategy with the carbon neutrality objectives established for 2050”, concludes the municipality, led by José Meneses.
