Municipality of Ovar receives five distinctions at the Social City Congress

The municipality of Ovar received five distinctions at the III Social City Congress, an initiative of the Observatory of Local Authorities that took place recently in Vila Nova de Poiares. With a handful of distinctions, this meeting in which more than 200 local authorities participated, saw its good practices recognised and renewed «the commitment to continue integrated, close policies, which bring about effective changes in people's lives and contribute to sustainable development and the construction of an increasingly cohesive, supportive municipality with opportunities for all». Three projects from Ovar received the Gold Municipal Excellence Award: the Oriented Walks and Ovar in Senior Movement, in the Sports category, and the Group of Psychologists with the Ovar Network, in Social Action. In this area, the municipality of Vareiro also received the Diamond Municipal Excellence Award, which revalidates the value and innovation of the candidacy for Child-Friendly City, already distinguished the previous year. In addition to this year's awards, the Solidarity Municipality Diploma, for the four-year period 2022-2025, is added. “It is with great satisfaction and, above all, responsibility to continue the work carried out, that, in this meeting that is already a reference, we see the good practices of the municipality of Ovar recognized”, highlighted Ana Cunha, Councilor for Social Development. He stressed “the importance of a planned strategy, which sets demanding goals, allowing efficient management and the application of continuous improvements throughout its implementation, and which effectively contributes to the well-being of the community and true social development”. The event also included thematic round tables, where reflection was given on the paths to follow in the future, promoting a strategic perspective for the development of local policies.

The congress was also an opportunity to learn about other inspiring projects and share experiences and information with other local authorities, encouraging dialogue and inter-municipal cooperation.
