Netanyahu nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

At the start of a dinner with Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu handed the US President the letter he sent to the Nobel Committee and justified the nomination with the conviction that he is “restoring peace” in several countries and regions, especially in the Middle East.

The distinction would be “well deserved,” Netanyahu told Trump, in the presence of US special envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, among other senior officials from both countries. “Coming from you, that’s very significant,” Trump responded to the Israeli leader.

Trump has already made clear his desire to win the Nobel Prize, even saying that he deserved it more than former US President Barack Obama, who won the award in 2009.

Trump's nomination for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize had already been presented twice: first by the Pakistani government on June 21, in recognition of the truce it negotiated between India and Pakistan; and then by US Congressman Buddy Carter, who sent a nomination letter to Oslo on June 24.

According to the statutes of the Nobel Committee, nominations are open to members of national assemblies and governments of sovereign states.
