PRR 2021-2026: a missed opportunity in health?

Four years after the launch of the famous " bazooka , " Portugal risks missing a unique opportunity to address some of the ills of the National Health Service (SNS). The promise was clear: use €2.1 billion from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) to strengthen primary and hospital healthcare, long-term and palliative care, and mental health, modernize infrastructure and equipment, and invest decisively in the digitalization of the sector. The reality is different – the implementation of health funds is slow, fragmented, and insufficient to achieve significant results by mid-2026.
