Quarteira reveals its history with night tours

The Loulé Municipal Museum is promoting the "Nights with Heritage" initiative, with a cultural program during the summer months at the exhibition "With Feet on the Land and Hands in the Sea. 6,000 Years of Quarteira's History."

Located in the Old Quarteira Fish Market, this exhibition offers an immersion into the evolution of the city's settlement and culture, from prehistory to the 20th century.

In July and August, the exhibition will be open with new hours, from 4:30 PM to 11:00 PM, Tuesday through Sunday. To further enrich the experience, at 10:00 PM on Fridays, themed tours will be held, led by Museum staff.

These nighttime tours promise to delve deeper into various aspects of the history, museography, archaeology, conservation, and restoration of this valuable heritage site.

On July 18th, archaeologist Alexandra Pires will present the topic "Inhabiting Quarteira from Prehistory to the 20th Century." On July 25th, it will be Jéssica Botelho's turn to present the themed visit "From Fish to Sweet Potatoes: Foods that Tell Stories."

In August, the proposed themes are: August 1 – "The importance of conservation and restoration in an exhibition", by Rita Vaza; August 8 – "Quarteira between yesterday and today", by Ana Margarida Marques; August 15 – "Evidence of 2,000 years of maritime trade", by Rui de Almeida; August 22 – "Pirates in sight!!! The Tower and the New Fort of Quarteira", by Daniel Giebels; August 29 – "From land to sea: Quarteira in transformation", by Jéssica Botelho.

With the "Nights with Heritage" activity, the Loulé Municipal Museum reiterates its commitment to promoting and disseminating Quarteira's historical and cultural heritage, making it accessible to all.

Entry is free and for more information and registration, interested parties can contact us by telephone (289 400 611 / 960 286 657).

Additional details about each visit will be published on the Loulé Municipal Museum's Facebook and Instagram pages.
