REN donated an all-terrain vehicle to the Anadia Volunteer Firefighters
Bruno Almeida, commander of the fire brigade, stressed that this vehicle “will be an asset, reinforcing the “capacity to act in tactical terms”, not only “in rescue and assistance situations”, but also “in various operations related to the regular activity of the corporation”

REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais donated an all-terrain vehicle to the Anadia Volunteer Firefighters, reinforcing support for civil protection and the safety of local populations. It will allow the corporation to improve its response capacity in hard-to-reach areas, particularly in operations to prevent and combat forest fires. Bruno Almeida, commander of the fire brigade, stressed that this vehicle “will be an added value, reinforcing the ‘capacity to act in tactical terms’, not only ‘in rescue and relief situations’, but also ‘in various operations related to the regular activity of the corporation’. Over the years, REN has been investing in prevention, contributing to the fight against rural fires. This work is carried out through the management and cleaning of vegetation and reforestation of easements, but also through a close partnership with the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority and other entities linked to the forest. In May 2023, he received the Gold Medal for Distinguished Services from the Portuguese Firefighters League, for the support provided to several volunteer fire brigades. Last year, nationwide, vegetation management and clearing was carried out in an area of 10,200 hectares, having contacted more than 36,000 landowners for this purpose. Also in 2024, and taking into account the adaptation of land use in the protection strips of the lines, 461 hectares were (re)forested, with the involvement of 1,900 landowners. Through its reforestation program for easements, between 2010 and 2024 it (re)forested 4,553 hectares, with the planting of 1.5 million trees. More than 24,000 landowners were involved in this process, with the most planted species being strawberry trees and oaks, increasing biodiversity and resilience to forest fires in the intervened areas.

Since 2009, REN has donated 98 vehicles to prevent forest fires, 65 of which were donated to fire brigades and 30 to local authority civil protection fire prevention teams.
