Santos overcomes mess, ex-law and expulsion and seeks a draw against Sport

The draw at Ilha do Retiro sees Santos leave the relegation zone, moving up to 16th place with 15 points. However, Vasco, which dropped one place, could regain its position tomorrow. Sport remains at the bottom of the table with five points.

Santos' next match is against Juventude at Morumbis Stadium on the 4th, in the 18th round of the Brasileirão. Santos has reached an agreement with São Paulo to play three Brasileirão matches at the Tricolor stadium. In the next round, Sport faces Bahia at home on the 2nd.

There was no "miracle" on Retiro Island

Sport remains winless in a four-month drought. The Lion of the Island's last victory was on March 22, against Retrô in the Pernambucano Championship final.

Since then, they've played 18 matches, including today's, with four draws and 14 losses. Without a win in the current Brasileirão, Sport has gone four years without a victory in the Brazilian top flight.

Sport's last victory in the Brasileirão Série A was on October 3, 2021, when they defeated Grêmio 2-1 away from home in Porto Alegre. In that edition, Sport was relegated to Série B, where they remained until last season.
