Suspect arrested for starting six fires in Pinhel

A 58-year-old man was arrested for allegedly committing six forest fires in different locations in the municipality of Pinhel, the Judicial Police (PJ) announced this Tuesday, adding that the suspect justified his actions with alcoholism and mental health problems.
The note released by the PJ also states that the detainee said that he always started the fires with a direct flame, using a lighter and ethyl alcohol.
The arrest was carried out on Monday by members of the Criminal Investigation Department of the PJ Guard, who had the collaboration of the GNR, through the Protection and Environment Unit and the Pinhel Territorial Post.
The detainee will be brought before the judicial authority for the first judicial interrogation and application of the respective coercive measures.
