Two inmates who escaped from Alcoentre prison captured

The two inmates who escaped from Alcoentre prison at 6:20 pm on Monday have already been captured.

Hélder Malheiro and Augusto Dinis, aged 37 and 44, were caught this morning, at 6:40 am, after 12 hours on the run, in Espinheira, around four kilometres from the prison.

“Since becoming aware of the suspects’ escape, the police force of the Guard has developed a series of discreet measures to collect and exchange information and use various surveillance mechanisms, which, following a report at 3:00 am, allowed the capture and detention of the escapees”, reads a statement from the GNR.

The two inmates were being held for drug trafficking and robbery. They both escaped from Wing B of the prison, through the area where the watchtowers are deactivated due to a lack of prison guards.
