Von der Leyen resists censure motion

Von der Leyen resists censure motion

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been the target of a vote of censure. It has been over ten years since such an initiative was presented against the European executive.

The motion was rejected by 360 MEPs, mostly from the three centrist groups—the Socialists, the European People's Party, and the liberal Renew party—and 175 voted in favor. Thus, von der Leyen is resisting, but even those who voted in favor, such as the Socialist Vice-President of the European Parliament, Katarina Barley, said this was von der Leyen's "last chance."

The Commission President thanked them for their trust, saying that Europe needs "strength, vision, and the ability to act" and that "we need everyone to respond to our common challenges. Together," at a time when "external forces seek to destabilize and divide us." "Thank you, and long live Europe," von der Leyen concluded in a message posted on the social network X.
