Woman arrested on suspicion of setting fire in Arouca

A 56-year-old woman was arrested by the Judicial Police, with the collaboration of the GNR, for being strongly indicted for the authorship of a forest fire in Arouca.

“The suspect is believed to have caused the fire using a direct flame, allegedly during a period of alcohol consumption,” the PJ reported in a statement.

The fire, controlled using aerial means, "created danger to a significant area of forest, as well as to several buildings, namely residences and industries located in the area, with a strong social alarm due to the fire that has been raging for several days" in that municipality.

The detainee, who has no criminal record and is a resident of the area, will be brought before the first judicial interrogation to apply coercive measures.
