'Dona Florinda' criticizes series about Chaves after alleged betrayal

The biographical series "Chespirito: Sem Querer Querendo", based on the life of Roberto Bolaños, creator of the iconic TV work, generated great controversy in Mexico by considering the widow Florinda Meza, who played the character "Dona Florinda" in "Chaves", as the villain of the story.
Over the course of eight episodes available on the HBO Max streaming platform, the production reveals that Meza's marriage to the comedian began as a result of infidelity in the artist's previous marriage.
In a post on social media, the artist criticized the producers of the work and said that the production of "Chespirito" is taking "past interviews" out of context to be used inappropriately.
"You write stories based on how you think they should be. You didn't even respect my right to remain silent on these issues. For this series, you dug through the archives and dug up interviews from the past, which are in a different context, and used them against me. In real life, with human beings, not soap opera characters, there are many things to consider," the actress pointed out.
At 76 years old, the artist said she felt "offended" by the way she was portrayed, even though she is not called directly by her real name, but rather as "Margarita".
In an angry tone, Meza accused the series of being "full of lies" and denied having "destroyed" Bolaños' first marriage to Graciela Fernández, mother of his six children, two of whom, Paulina and Roberto, are part of the team behind the production.
"Dona Florinda," who also plays Chimoltrúfia in Chapolin Colorado, another hugely successful show in Mexico and Latin America, has not stopped questioning the series since it premiered.
The production shows how Bolaños transformed his interest in humor into a career that crossed generations and borders and still addresses professional and family fragility and drama.
"My name, my image and my life are mine. When I have something to report, everyone will hear from me," she concluded.
According to gossip magazines, before her affair with Bolaños, Florinda had a relationship with Carlos Villagrán, who played "Kiko" in "Chaves", and with producer Enrique Segoviano, to whom she was even engaged.
Since the series aired, social media has been rocked by a wave of attacks and insults against Meza, and there have even been proposals to remove a statue dedicated to her in Zacatecas, her hometown and capital of the state of the same name in the center of the country.
Despite the criticism, "Dona Florinda" denied reports that she is considering, at least for now, suing them for the way she was portrayed in the work.
