All About Myke Wright, Lizzo’s Serious Boyfriend
On April 18, 2022, Lizzo finally confirmed that she had a new boyfriend when she was interviewed by Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show Radio Andy. Cohen asked her about paparazzi photos of the musical artist out with a man in West Hollywood, having dinner at Craig’s restaurant.
When he wanted to know if she was still with the mystery fella, Lizzo said, “Yeah, whatever yeah.”
By June, the man, Myke Wright, was revealed, and they were both red carpet and Instagram official. Lizzo shared a series of photos of them together at an event for her new Amazon Prime Video reality series, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.
She went on to later say that December that she and Wright are serious and likely marriage-bound. Over two years later, Wright and Lizzo remain together, with the singer speaking adoringly about their “BookTok dream” romance in May 2025.
Here’s what we know about Mr. Wright and his years-long history with Lizzo.
He is an actor and a comedian, and has been seen in Breaking & Entering, How to Be A Grown Up, and Doubting Thomas.
In addition to that Valentine’s Day 2022 meal, they were seen at Crustacean Beverly Hills in October 2021 and again up on a balcony in Malibu in March 2022. She said in her interview that he was at Saturday Night Live on April 16, 2022 when she hosted and performed as the musical guest as well.
The pop icon jokes a lot about dating various stars on social media, and even poked fun of herself during her 2022 Saturday Night Live episode’s opening monologue.
“They think I’m collecting members of One Direction like Infinity Stones,” she said. “I even heard a rumor that I’m pregnant with Chris Evans’s baby. I have no idea where that one started.”
She added, “It could be the TikTok I did where I said, ‘I’m pregnant with Chris Evans’s baby, y’all.’ It’s called manifesting.”
To Cohen, who suggested being famous made it hard to date, Lizzo said that her success is “not even a factor” in her relationship.
“If you have the right person, no, not at all,” she shared. “It should be mutually supportive no matter what that person does.”
In 2019, she told People that she was very independent.
“I’m a single-minded individual, and I really like my freedom. I think there’s a lot of people that need to be in relationships and need to be in love. I want it sometimes, but I don’t need it.”
Lizzo told Rolling Stone that one relationship inspired “practically every song” on the album Cuz I Love You. But it ended in a bit of heartbreak, and she said she needed her freedom.
“As fucked up as it sounds, I needed that heartbreak experience,” she said. “I’m not sad, because I use the pain so constructively. It’s inevitable. The pain is human experience.”
In February 2022, Lizzo told Variety that she was “a little bit” in love and that had made it into her work.
“It is a love album,” she shared. “I’m shocked.”
It sounds like it’s going pretty well for Lizzo, in every way. In a July 15, 2022 interview with The Breakfast Club, she said that she has known Wright for a long time.
“I have the most genuine people around me,” she said. “They don’t give a shit about ‘Lizzo’ with the chain on. They care about ‘Melissa,’ and everyone I’m close with has known me before all of this happened, and I think that’s important.”
Lizzo’s real name is Melissa Jefferson.
Lizzo went on, “Even the man I’m with, he knew me before all of this too. We were friends. It hit different when they knew you before 2019.”
They went Instagram official when Lizzo shared pics from an event for her Amazon Prime Video reality series, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, but she had been hinting at his presence in her life for a few months.
In March 2022, Lizzo captioned a post, “Happyyyyyyyyyyyy,” in which she is leaning over to try and kiss somebody off screen. She almost falls from her chair and giggles gleefully.
In May 2022, Lizzo celebrated her birthday, and in a montage she shared on Instagram, his face peeps out very briefly toward the end as she floats back towards him in the pool.
And then in January 2023, Lizzo went red carpet official with her boyfriend, posing with him at the famous Clive Davis pre-Grammy Gala, which returned after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus. The couple looked in love as they posed for pics together.
And Lizzo shared some of her favorite shots on Instagram of their night together, with the joking caption, “Hard launch.”
They were then seen together at the 2023 Grammys, where the musical artist took home the Record of the Year prize for “About Damn Time.”
They went out the following weekend to the 2023 Brit Awards, where Lizzo wore a form-fitting dress with a gorgeous ruffle. Wright was in a black Gucci suit covered in the brand's satin pattern.
In May 2023, Lizzo referenced to Wright when she posted a comment on Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty five-year anniversary campaign post. Lizzo shared, “I need some lingerie for my man sis 💖”
And in July 2023, Lizzo shouted out Wright’s artistry. She posted a picture of herself with Wright, captioning it, “Selfie with my favorite artist,” before telling her followers to “stream Moxie” which was Wright’s new album.
The second photo shows the word with its definition: “force of character, determination, or nerve.”
Lizzo spoke to Howard Stern on Dec. 12, 2022 about how she sees her and Wright going the distance.
"In the past we were friends," she started, via E!. “I had a lot of shit to do, and I still was very much in my ‘I feel un-loveable’ place, and I still was very much not where I wanted to be career-wise.”
That changed overtime, and she and Wright became serious when they started dating.
“If you love something and you let it go, and if it’s meant to be, it comes back to you. When the time was right we came together, and we just recently were like, ‘Oh, we together. This is official,’” Lizzo said. “We’re not playing any games with each other anymore. We’re very much locked in.” As for whether she saw herself marrying Wright, she added, “There’s nobody else I’m going to be with for the rest of my life.”
In a Vanity Fair interview published in October 2022, Lizzo also addressed their long-term future. “I’ve known him for over six years. He’s everything,” she said. “We’re just in love. And that’s it.”
In an October 2022 Vanity Fair interview, she discussed how dating Wright fit into her stance on monogamy, something she claimed before she didn’t believe in. “Is monogamy a religion?” she asked rhetorically. “People fight for monogamy like they pray to it every day. I am not a polyamorous person, I’m not in love with multiple partners. That is not me. He’s the love of my life. We are life mates. Do I want to get married? If I wanted to start a business with him, I’d get married because that’s when your finances come together. I like weddings. I would like to have a wedding over a marriage. I’m not thinking about sex when I think about monogamy and rules. I’m thinking about the autonomy and independence of him and me. How wonderful would it be to be this complete independent person and to come together to make two complete independent people? Not that whole ‘You complete me, you’re my other half.’ No. I’m whole, and you’re incredible too. We’re like the mirror image of each other. We’re connected. But that doesn’t mean I was incomplete when I met him.”
In May 2025, Lizzo appeared on an episode of Therapuss with Jake Shane. While answering an advice question about a girl whose guy friend keeps leading her on, Lizzo mentioned that her current relationship started off platonic. “I had a friends-to-lovers trope,” she shared with Shane. “We both worked on this TV show for MTV. I was the music girl, and he was the comedy guy. I was like, ‘He’s my best friend.’”

She went on to say that although she already had guy friends in the music industry, she felt like she could really talk to Wright. “We had this crazy bond for years,” she said. “I do love that we were friends first. That means we can talk about anything.”
When Shane told her, “He’s your best friend,” she enthusiastically agreed. Lizzo ended by saying that she hates that the listener’s guy friend is leading her on because the friends-to-lovers trope is such a “fantasy.” She continued, “It’s like a BookTok dream to be like, ‘Oh my god, he was my best friend and one day he just looked at me differently.”
