Moraes authorizes family visits to Marcelo Câmara, former Bolsonaro aide

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), authorized, through an order issued this Friday, 20, that Marcelo Costa Câmara, former special advisor to Jair Bolsonaro, receive visits from family members at the Army Police Battalion in Brasília, where he is being held on suspicion of obstruction of justice.
The minister allowed meetings with “spouses, children, parents and siblings, in person and virtually, as long as the regulatory standards of the battalion in which the person is being held are met and the days of the week and period mentioned above are observed”. The defendant’s lawyers who have powers of attorney will also be able to visit him.
Marcelo Costa Câmara was preventively arrested this Wednesday, the 18th. The STF decided, after a custody hearing, to maintain the arrest last Thursday, the 19th.
The former aide is one of the military officers investigated in the criminal action related to the coup plot and is suspected of collaborating with the attempted coup d'état. The colonel was arrested for allegedly trying to obtain confidential information about Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid's plea bargain, which could constitute obstruction of justice.
Câmara allegedly exchanged messages with Cid through a fake Instagram profile called @gabrielar702. Lawyer Eduardo Kuntz, who represents the military man, used the fact to request that Cid's plea bargain be annulled.
Moraes requested the defendant's arrest and also highlighted that Câmara was prohibited from using social networks “his own or through third parties” and from maintaining contact with other people under investigation during the period of electronic conversations.
