Santarém. Man dies in Rio Maior crash

A light vehicle skidded to a stop on Wednesday, killing the driver, a 44-year-old man, in Azinheira, Rio Maior municipality and Santarém district, said the second-in-command of the local fire department.
"The vehicle crashed into a wall of a house. The man underwent CPR, but died at the scene," Luís Coelho, second-in-command of the fire department, told Lusa.
According to this official, the victim may also have suffered a sudden illness, as he complained of feeling unwell when he woke up.
The man also lived in Azinheira, a few hundred meters from the accident site.
The alert was given at 8:42 am, with nine operators and three vehicles being mobilized to the site, namely resources from the Rio Maior Fire Department, the National Institute of Medical Emergency with the Santarém Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle and the GNR, according to a source from the Lezíria do Tejo Emergency and Civil Protection Sub-Command.
The GNR is investigating the causes of the accident through its Road Accident Investigation Unit.
