Young man shot during riot at Odivelas festivities

On the last day of the Odivelas Festivities, a “disorder between groups of young people” occurred on Sunday night, and a young man under 20 years old was seriously injured following gunshots, reported Correio da Manhã and confirmed by Observador with an official source from the PSP.

The alert was given at 11:22 pm and referred to the existence of a disturbance in the Parque Urbano do Silvado, the venue for the Odivelas festivities that took place between July 4th and 13th and which ended this Sunday with a tribute concert to Mamonas Assassinas.

Following the disturbance, at least four shots were fired (with a .22mm caliber firearm), two of which hit the victim in the armpit and abdomen, requiring assistance from the VMER (National Military Police) at the scene. The young man was taken to Santa Maria Hospital with serious injuries, Correio da Manhã added.

Contrary to previous reports, no officers were injured in the shooting, the PSP confirmed to Observador: "There are no reports of any injured officers." Furthermore, no suspects have been identified, and the case is already being investigated by the Judiciary Police.
