MOSCOW, June 8 - RIA Novosti. Ticks can detect a potential victim at a distance of up to ten meters thanks to a specialized sensory organ, Andrei Matalin, Doctor of Biological Sciences and Professor of Physics, Biology and Human Pathology at Pirogov University, told RIA Novosti. "Many ticks have no eyes. However, their front legs have a specialized sensory organ that reacts to smell, thermal radiation and humidity. It is thanks to this that ticks are able to detect a potential victim at a distance of up to ten meters," Matalin said. He specified that ticks can most often be found in meadows, forest edges, along paths and animal trails, including in city parks and forest parks. "Ticks are usually active from early April to mid-October. There are two peaks of activity, from mid-April to late May and from August to September. Minimal activity is observed in June to July," the specialist added. According to the doctor, the most favorable temperature for ticks is plus 18 degrees with a relative humidity of 80%.

MOSCOW, June 8 - RIA Novosti. Ticks can detect a potential victim at a distance of up to ten meters thanks to a specialized sensory organ, Andrei Matalin, a doctor of biological sciences and professor of physics, biology and human pathology at Pirogov University, told RIA Novosti.

"Many ticks are eyeless. However, their front legs contain a specialized sensory organ that reacts to smell, heat radiation and humidity. It is thanks to this that ticks are able to detect a potential victim at a distance of up to ten meters," Matalin said.

He specified that ticks can most often be found in meadows, forest edges, along paths and animal trails, including in city parks and forest parks.

"The period of activity of ixodid ticks usually lasts from the beginning of April to mid-October. There are two peaks of activity, which occur in mid-April - the end of May and August-September. Minimal activity is observed in June-July," the specialist added.

According to the doctor, the most favorable temperature for ticks is plus 18 degrees with a relative humidity of 80%.
