The confiscation of frozen Russian assets would be contrary to international law, said French President Emmanuel Macron. During a meeting with US President Donald Trump, which was broadcast on the Elysee Palace's page on the social network X, the politician recalled that Europe strives to comply with international law.
You can take back dividends from frozen assets, but you can't take back the assets themselves. This is contrary to international law, and we want to comply with it , Macron said.
At the same time, he added that "the fate of frozen assets may be the subject of negotiations." However, the politician specified, only "after the end of military operations."
Earlier, financial analyst Alexander Razuvaev noted that if the American side decides to confiscate frozen assets of the Russian Federation, then Moscow will confiscate frozen assets of US companies in response. According to him, this concerns dividends on blue chips, in particular shares of the largest and most liquid companies, and investments in OFZ.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys suggested that the European Union should make a decision on the frozen Russian assets as early as March. He also expressed surprise that Europe was dragging its feet on the issue.
